Martin Bend wetland

Found right on the edge of town, Martin Bend wetland, is a popular place for locals and tourists alike. It exists of 5 lagoons, with 1 permanently connected to the river. BBL has been actively involved in the management of the reserve since 1997. A number of structures have been installed to improve water flow through the wetland complex.

A walking trail developed by the Lions Club takes you around the wetland, count on 1.5 hr for the loop walk. A brochure with the trail and information on the ecology of Martin Bend is available at BBL and a number of Visitor Information Centres. The walk takes you through floodplain habitat and is rich in birdlife.
Martin Bend is open to the public every day of the year and has 2 boat ramps, toilets, BBQ, a water ski club and a camp ground.

BBL, assisted by departmental staff and the Overland Corner volunteers, monitors ground water, surface water and photo points at the reserve 4x a year, usually on the first Sunday of March, June, September and December. Anyone is welcome but please contact the BBL first. It is a great way to see the reserve, get some fresh air and meet like-minded people.
